Primary Responsibilities:
The UCD team supports development of Intuit's tax-related websites, connected products, and desktop products. Members of the UCD team are expert users of Intuit's products and services. We constantly refine and expand our skills in customer research methods, ease of use metrics, industry trends, and technology shifts. Success depends on clear and current understanding of the short- and long-term business goals of Consumer Tax Group, Professional Accounting Solutions, Intuit, UCD, and the teams we work with. This clarity will ensure that each decision we make supports the goals our three stakeholders: customers, shareholders, and employees.
* Utilize the principles of user-centered design to develop user interaction designs using knowledge of customer tasks, product functionality requirements, knowledge of user interface architecture, knowledge of other user interface designs, and industry and company interface standards.
* Provide input to Intuit's corporate guidelines for user interaction design, visual design, and branding.
* Mentor less-senior interaction designers and related colleagues to enhance their skills and ensure their understanding of Intuit's corporate guidelines.
* Produce or assist with specifications and guidelines describing user interfaces and internal structures for individual projects/products and for Intuit's corporate usage.
* Translate usability research findings into design improvements
* Identify requirements and set conceptual design and product direction based on field research and functional requirements
* Work closely with producers and developers to define and design the user experience
* Design the user interaction model, workflow, information architecture, and user interface and create prototypes (as needed)
* Use storyboarding, user modeling, scenario development, high-level use case definition, task analysis, and other activities to capture and develop user requirements and integrate elements into user interaction designs.
* Create, evaluate, and modify low-fidelity prototypes to support development process. Facilitate iterative testing of prototypes.
* Maintain direct line-of-sight between your daily tasks, UCD's annual goals, and Intuit's 3-year business goals.
* Partner successfully with development teams, marketing, other user-interface professionals and customers to design and test world-class legal and news/business products.
* Support project leadership in the development and implementation of specific solution plans that enable improved user experiences and meet business objectives.
* Take feedback well and provide feedback carefully.
* Look for synergies. Don't remake the wheel if an adequate prototype already exists.
* Meet agreements. When it comes to your clients, do what you promise, when promised, or communicate schedule changes to your colleagues.
* Inform those who need to know. Track your action items well and keep your colleagues/clients informed of status (esp. if delays or problems). Flag problems as early as possible.
Qualifications:
BA in Information Architecture,Human Factors Engineering, Cognitive Science or equivalent, and/or in visual, architectural, or industrial design.
* Minimum of 6 years as a key designer for e-commerce applications and/or desktop software for the retail market.
* Proven communication and organization skills; ability to work well in team setting.
* Leadership skills, ability to drive teams to consensus, ability to work independently, understanding of Intuit's products and customer segments.
* Minimum 6 years as key designer for e-commerce web applications
* Strong skills in rapid prototyping and iterative design process
* Expert knowledge of interface design standards and best practices
