User Interface Designer
Prerequisites:
· Front End design problem solving
· A portfolio demonstrating the following is required:
Good graphic design core competencies
Ability to present complex information in a consistent, understandable fashion
Basic drawing skills
Good use of line and light
Breadth of artistic styles
· Ability to work within a style including a style set by
another artist/art director/ Brand Identity
Requirements:
· Experience on a minimum of 6-8 complete titles/productions
that have shipped, experience with large franchises or feature film are desirable
· Demonstrates an ability to develop and design a graphical
style for a product from the ground up
· Typography and Layout (specifically Grid systems)
· Demonstrates a high level of creativity in approaching work
while remaining within constraints of corporate and brand identities
Understanding:
· Demonstrates an strong understanding of
Typography and Layout (specifically Grid systems).
Composition
Color
Vector and Raster Image Creation tools and appropriate use of both
Layout package (i.e. Quark Xpress and EA FE layout tools)
Continuity as it relates to the design of interfaces/menu systems and the game’s visual design
· Demonstrates a strong understanding of:
Icon design
Interactive navigational flow and controls
Interface/menu systems assembly and vector based scripting techniques
Key principles of human interface design/ergonomics; importance of consistency in design
· At least one area of expertise in either visual design or
technical assembly of interface/menu systems
· Experience working with Flash a plus.
Responsibilities:
· From a craft perspective, supervises FE/Interface team and
deigns across a studio, while in production
· Proactively researches new and/or emerging methods for
interface design; develops methods for adapting those techniques into gaming applications
· Proactively works with FE/interface teams within home
studio to preemptively eliminate problems in the productions cycle, ideally before they occur
· Proactively works across WW Studios to maintain a level of
communication with other Interface Designers/development teams throughout EA
· Within a studio or production group, is ultimately
responsible for all interfaces, interface portions of MDD’s, reviewing and providing feedback on interface documentation
Professional:
· Proactively mentors junior Interface artists
· Adds value to franchises or a studio by using craft to
raise overall visual value and quality of game play experience
· Conducts reviews of Sr. FE/Interface staff with APM and/or
DD
· Assists in recruiting of Art staff
