Post Doctoral Research Position
The Information School of the University of Washington invites applications for a Post Doctoral Researcher position in the area of Value Sensitive Design as part of a 5-year NSF funded research project. Value Sensitive Design (VSD) is an emerging approach to information and computer system design that seeks to account for human values in a principled and comprehensive manner throughout the design process. We aim to extend and validate Value Sensitive Design on a large scale, across five research strands: (1) personal robots in human lives; (2) plasma display technologies; (3) children and information systems; (4) large-scale computer urban simulation ("UrbanSim"); and (5) industry contexts, potentially with Microsoft, Intel, and Openwave. PI - Dr. Batya Friedman (The Information School); collaborators include Dr. Peter Kahn (Dept. of Psychology) and Dr. Alan Borning (Dept. of Computer Science and Engineering). With this Post-Doctoral position, we are particularly looking for expertise to assist with VSD in industry contexts and UrbanSim. In addition to a background in human-computer interaction, desirable experience includes design, prototyping, implementation (e.g., programming), evaluation, and socio-technical analyses. PhD must be completed no later than September 15, 2004 in Computer Science, Information Science, or other related field.
