Post Doctoral Research Position
The Information School of the University of Washington invites applications for a Post Doctoral Researcher position in the area of Value Sensitive Design as part of a 5-year NSF funded research project. Value Sensitive Design (VSD) is an emerging approach to information and computer system design that seeks to account for human values in a principled and comprehensive manner throughout the design process. We aim to extend and validate Value Sensitive Design on a large scale, across five research strands: (1) personal robots in human lives; (2) plasma display technologies; (3) children and information systems; (4) large-scale computer urban simulation ("UrbanSim"); and (5) industry contexts, potentially with Microsoft, Intel, and Openwave. With this Post-Doctoral position, we are particularly looking for expertise to assist with VSD in industry contexts and UrbanSim. In addition to a background in human-computer interaction, desirable experience includes design, prototyping, implementation (e.g., programming), evaluation, and socio-technical analyses. PhD must be completed no later than September 15, 2004 in Computer Science, Information Science, or other related field.
Salary and benefits are competitive. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
