The Staples Usability team continues to be one of the thought leaders in usability and is growing to meet company demand for our services.
About the Position
The ideal Usability Research Analyst will have usability experience in a corporate environment. You will have conducted full usability tests as well as heuristic reviews. You will understand the balance between business needs and usability ideals. In this position you will partner closely with the business and creative teams on all testing projects.
Responsibilities
Research: Responsible for or assist with full user research cycle including:
> Segmentation, user and business goals, and technical requirements > Tasks, screens for testing, and qualitative and quantitative success criteria definition > Conduct research with participants and aggregate results into findings document > Present findings to cross-functional groups and work to implement recommendations
Analytics: Analysis of data for own and other usability group projects > Statistical analysis of data (t-tests, ANOVAs, scale reliability and validity, etc.) > Interacting with other usability studies to guide in analysis strategy and execution.
> Translating results into easily understood and actionable statements > Experience with hierarchical evaluations and cluster analyses.
Heuristics: Conduct expert reviews of daily pages by applying scientific usability principles:
> Create and update page guidelines
> Document changes for improvement based on reviews and help implement
Traffic Analysis: Perform both exploratory and project support analysis of site traffic > Utilizing site analysis software or other applicable methods.
> Preemptively identify potential pages or areas of concern and methods to test.
> Provide site analysis support for multiple business units.
Qualifications
> Minimum MS degree in Human Factors, Cognitive or I/O Psych or related required.
> 1 to 3 years of usability experience in a corporate or consulting environment.
> Strong experience in a variety of research methodologies including usability testing, focus groups, field studies and competitive analysis and site analytics software > Strong ability to report in easily understood and actionable recommendations.
> Strong communication and presentation skills > Experience in statistics strongly preferred: t-tests, regressions, ANOVAs, assessing scale reliability and validity, etc.
> Experience with test, survey, question and scale development > Deep understanding of human behavior as demonstrated through educational study and professional research > Ability to handle multiple projects for multiple clients at once > Ability to represent Staples usability in conferences, external presentations and other professional activities
