Experience Architect Role Definition

DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES


Analysis

The Experience Architect (EA) will be responsible for all aspects of user experience and interface design for a new, large order management system capable of satisfying the needs of thousands of users and millions of customers and orders each month.

The person satisfying this role will, while working within the constraints of the project and the company, ensure innovative, usable user experiences that can be implemented effectively.

The successful candidate will work as a member of highly skilled and motivated project teams and contribute to all aspects of user experience analysis and design.

The successful applicant will have hands-on knowledge of usability issues, requirements gathering, use case documentation, web and application development processes, and possess the ability to organize large bodies of information into a logical presentation layer.

They will:

* Lead the GUI and interaction design from requirements analsysis through working prototypes to the final product user interfaces
* Perform needs analyses and requirements gathering
* Develop audience profiles, user scenarios, storyboards, sitemaps, wireframes and navigational prototypes
* Work with the users and business process owners to assess needs and priorities and work with technical teams to create application experiences that effectively accomplish the goals of the businessand the users
* Assist application design team with gathering functional and user requirements, creating user profiles and scenarios, planning and executing user interviews and JAD sessions
* Perform user and task analysis through interviewing, profiling, concept testing, etc.
* Develop user interface requirements and standards

They may:

* Write use cases and create user flow diagrams
* Plan and facilitate usability tests, surveys and focus groups, as needed


Design


* Determine and specify UI requirements based on user and Subject Matter Expert (SME) interviews and other business data, technical requirements, and company goals
* Design user interaction models and detailed user interfaces such as screen flows, UI components behaviors
* Produce detailed, graphic and written interface specifications and for graphic designers, systems engineers and QA
* Produce design specifications with screen mock-ups
* Design information architecture and interaction designs
* Develop use case scenarios, site maps, flow diagrams, and wireframes


Testing and Implementation


* Candidates must also be familiar with usability engineering and research methodologies, participate in the product usability testing process by collaborating on test plans, attending test sessions, and lead brainstorm activities for design solutions
* Plan and conduct usability evaluation and testing through the UI development stages and after product release


Overall


* Follow established user interface guidelines to ensure consistency of look-and-feel
* Contribute to the improvement of our experience/interface design process
* collaborating with several functional areas to ensure the integrity of the design and the translation of wireframes into a usable, efficient, cohesive component-based system
* mentoring other designers

INTERACTION
As a member of the overall system analysis, design and implementation team, you will also work with:

* Internal system users (for user and task analysis, customer interviews, etc.)
* Business subject matter experts
* Business process and client owners t define feature/product requirements for our applications
* Customer Care to understand customer issues with the current experience. Gathering and analyzing customer requirements and usability data
* Client business representatives
* Customers (for user and task analysis, usability testing, and other types of evaluations of usability)
* Technology Development team, including testing and documentation (for development and implementation of designs, and feedback on usability)
* UI engineers (establish design and process standards, collaborate on design activities, ensure consistency, etc.)

QUALIFICATIONS and SKILLS

* Minimum of 4 years of experience in Information Architecture, Interaction Design, UI Design, Usability Engineering, or similar fields
* Bachelor's or Master's degree, preferably in Information Architecture, Human Factors, HCI, Cognitive Psychology, Interaction Design, Computer Science with specialty in User Interface Design or related discipline

* Comprehensive understanding of UI technologies, user-centered design concepts
* Demonstrated ability to incorporate user-centered design principles into the architecture and design of user interfaces
* Excellent analytical skills including task analysis and use-case creation
* Solid understanding of information architecture and interaction design principals, working knowledge of taxonomy and nomenclature issues
* Ability to develop innovative approaches for complex design problems and functional easy-to-use application
* Experience with effective executing the iterative design process through the complete product development cycle
* Proven track record of designing software interfaces and writing detailed UI/functional specifications
* Strong skills with industry tools for generating flow diagrams, wireframes, specifications, and prototypes
* Flexibility to take on a wide variety of tasks and responsibilities within the user engineering lifecycle
* Excellent detail orientation, and a passion for accuracy and consistency
* Understanding of underlying technical issues
* Experience creating navigational and UI prototypes
* Proven ability to meet tight deadlines
* Excellent communication skills and strong abilities to work independently and collaboratively with large scale product team
* Receptive to feedback and direction from others
* Proven ability to work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team
* Clear, organized written and oral communication, listening and presentation skills
* Strong organizational, listening, communication, conceptual and interpersonal skills

* Logistics services domain knowledge is desired
* Working knowledge of HTML and CSS a big plus
* Experience working with visual designers a plus
* Ability to program, prototype, or script in at least one programming language or prototyping environment is a plus

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

* Travel: up to 80%
* Primary Location: Columbus, OH
* Secondary Locations: Buffalo, NY; Bloomfield, NJ; Nashville, TN
