Research Associate positions
Applications are invited for two research associate positions, one junior and one senior, on a new research project that is modeling aspects of multimodal interaction, performance and dialogue (involving speech, pen input, 3-D gestures, gaze and facial expressions), as well as designing and prototyping new multimodal interfaces with alternative agent-based instantiations. Project research areas include user modeling of multimodal interaction, analysis of multimodal dialogue and human performance, user/system adaptive multimodal interface design, support for collaborative multimodal interaction, mobile and multimodal-multisensor interface design, development of novel research infrastructures, and other topics.
Applicants are encouraged to apply for the senior RA position who have a Masters degree in a relevant field (Experimental Psychology/Cognitive Science, Linguistics/Computational Linguistics, Computer Science & Engineering), plus at least 2 years of related work experience. Senior RA applicants should have extensive experience testing human subjects, analyzing human language and performance, doing statistical analyses, and working in the area of human-computer interaction and interface design. Extensive experience also needed with basic office software for text processing, spreadsheets, preparation of talks, and publication-quality manuscripts and graphics. Skills related to quantitative modeling of data, speech signal analysis and related software (e.g., Praat) also highly desirable. Applicants for the junior RA position should have a Bachelors degree in a relevant field, and 1-2 years of related work experience. Applicants with experience participating in multidisciplinary team-oriented research are especially encouraged.
This work is being conducted in a state-of-the-art laboratory facility at the Center for Human-Computer Communication (CHCC) at the Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU), just west of the Portland, Oregon metropolitan area. Priority will be given to applications received by June 1st, although positions will remain open until filled. Salary range and benefits competitive.
