About Us: St. Jude Medical is a leader in developing, manufacturing and distributing medical devices for the global cardiovascular market. Its Cardiac Rhythm Management Division, located in the suburbs of Los Angeles, is currently seeking a Human Factor Specialist.
Job Description: Working with moderate supervision from senior staff, refine, prototype and document GUI designs for lifesaving medical products. Help to plan and conduct customer and competitive usability research. Based on senior staff input, create GUI concepts and interactive prototypes for usability testing, and apply customer feedback toward improved concepts. Clearly communicate GUI designs through dialogue with internal staff, informal written presentations, and formal engineering specifications. Work requires the application of principles and creative/analytical techniques typically acquired in a recognized four-year curriculum. Experience working with software development teams in an FDA-regulated environment is highly desirable, as is experience in creating process-oriented and detail-intensive materials.
Qualifications Required: Typically a minimum of 2 + years of progressively more responsible work experience with the design of software for complex applications. Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Engineering, a related field, or equivalent. Expertise in Macromedia Fireworks and web-based prototyping tools including JavaScript, DHTML, and Macromedia Flash is required. Must have in-depth knowledge and experience of: human factors and cognitive psychology theory and application; the software development process; software technology; and effective methods of working with R&D teams, customers, trends, governmental factors and emerging research and technologies affecting product usability.
Qualifications Desired: A degree in Psychology (Human Factors, Cognitive, Engineering or Experimental), or in a field related to Human-Computer Interaction. Experience with the cardiac pacing and defibrillation device market is also highly desirable.
