PhD Studentship, Centre for Usable Home Technology (CUHTec) Microsoft Research and the University of York
Applications are invited for a 3-year studentship at CUHTec supported by
Microsoft Research. Any area of research relevant to the design of domestic
technologies will be considered. Current research includes: mobile phone use
and abuse; the dependability of electronic assistive technology; telephone
conferences as a recreational activity; TV use patterns; photo sharing; and
techniques for experience-centred design. Facilities include a three-bedroom
house on the University of York campus that has been furnished as a "living
home" laboratory.
The successful candidate will be registered in the Department of Psychology
for a Ph. D. in Human-Computer Interaction. They should have at least a 2.1
or an M. Sc. in Psychology or similar discipline and they should be eligible
for home fees. Fees will be paid by the University and a stipend of £10,500
