About Us: St. Jude Medical is a leader in developing, manufacturing and distributing medical devices for the global cardiovascular market. Its Cardiac Rhythm Management Division, located in the suburbs of Los Angeles, is currently seeking a Senior Human Factor Specialist.
Job Description: Collaborating with existing senior staff, design, refine, prototype, usability test, document, communicate and advocate interaction design solutions for lifesaving medical products. Plan and conduct customer and competitive usability research, and document results. Develop GUI concepts and interactive prototypes for usability testing, and apply customer feedback toward improved concepts. Clearly communicate GUI designs through dialogue with internal staff, informal written and verbal presentations, and formal engineering specifications. Work requires the application of design principles and creative/analytical techniques typically acquired in a recognized four-year curriculum. Great attention to detail and ability to multi-task are a must. Experience working with software development teams in an FDA regulated environment is highly desirable, as is experience in creating process-intensive materials.
Qualifications Required: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Human Factors, Interaction Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Usability Engineering, Cognitive Psychology, or equivalent program. Typically a minimum of 5 plus years of progressively more responsible work experience with the design of software for complex applications. Must have in-depth knowledge and experience of: interaction design best practices; human factors and cognitive psychology theory and application; the software development process; software technology; and effective methods of working with R&D teams, customers, trends, governmental factors and emerging research and technologies affecting product usability.
Qualifications Desired: Expertise in Macromedia Fireworks and web-based prototyping tools including JavaScript and DHTML is desired. Familiarity with application of personas and Goal-Directed Design methodology highly valued. Experience with the cardiac pacing and defibrillation device market is also highly desirable.
