Job Description
Work closely with the engineering, product management, information development, and technical support groups to understand and improve interface design. Design and conduct usability evaluations for commercial software products that focus on System and Security Management for the world's largest Windows and Unix enterprises. As a Sr. Usability Engineer, you will:
* Identify usability defects based on user data and report the results
* Create user interface designs that resolve identified usability defects
* Conduct site visits to analyze users, tasks, and work processes
* Develop and iteratively test user interface prototypes
* Set usability goals for products and generate long-term usability plans
* Promote the user-centered design method and provide usability training
Required Skills
* Skilled in experimental design, testing, and observational methods
* Ability to effectively communicate and represent user-testing to product teams
* Ability to work both independently and cooperatively in a fast-pace, results-oriented work environment
* Understand software development cycle and engineering concerns for designing and building interfaces
* Demonstrated ability to analyze product functionality and propose usability enhancements
* Ability to translate user needs into product specifications
* Ability to understand business needs and address them in user interface designs
* Knowledge of Windows and Web look & feel issues
* Ability to acquire and synthesize technical information to effectively interview technically sophisticated users
* Ability to evaluate, understand, and communicate customer knowledge level
* Working knowledge of effective business communication
* Strong, self-motivated work ethic
* Highly intelligent, creative, and innovative
* Strong personal drive for quality
* M.A. degree in psychology, human factors, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and work experience
* Commercial software usability experience in a team environment
* Experienced in research through hands-on use of the products
* Knowledge of networking concepts
* Experience with Windows and Unix administration
