Department Description:
The User-Centered Solutions Lab (UCSL) is part of the Center for Applications, Content and Services Research within Motorola Labs. Our charter is to utilize iterative prototyping to drive Motorola businesses to realize growth opportunities in application, content and services.
We're a dynamic cross-functional team of engineers and user-centered design specialists with a clear focus on advanced development and user-driven innovation: designing complete solutions to real user problems and building and evaluating prototypes that users can interact with.

Scope of Responsibilities/Expectations:
Create (architect/design/implement/test) application and service software for rapid prototypes all the way up to shipping product code in a collaborative fast-paced environment:
- Participate in the design, execution and analysis of user requirements and usability studies
- Help to develop scenarios and software functionality based on user data
- Participate in decisions about tasks, flows, and UI look/feel
- Create prototype software applications based on user requirements

Specific Knowledge:
Training:
- Essential: BS degree or equivalent in Computer Science (CS) or Human-Computer Interaction (HCI)
- Desirable: MS or equivalent in CS or HCI
- Desirable: previous design background or experience, formal or informal
- Desirable: experience in metadata, content management, or social network research

Software skills and experience:
- Essential: significant Java expertise (J2ME & J2SE and implementations such as CDC HI)
- Essential: C++/C and/or embedded software development experience
- Desirable: experience in development tools (JUnit, ClearCase, Visio, & cross compilers)
- Desirable: experience with XP (eXtreme programming) concepts
- Desirable: product lifecycle (design, implementation, & testing) understanding and experience
- Desirable: experience with multimedia content management or network protocols

User-Centered Design skills:
- Desirable: previous direct participation in some sort of user-centered research or design (university or industrial research lab, or industrial
development)
