Human Interaction Designer, Trampoline Systems

Jun 10 04

Source: Direct Submission

Human Interaction Designer, London
Company: Trampoline Systems Ltd
Position: Human Interaction Designer
Location: London
Contract: Part-time

The Trampoline Collaboration Engine is an unorthodox technology for communication and information management. The system is designed around how humans naturally structure information and relationships, encompassing informal as well as formal processes within an organisation. A Human Interaction Designer is now sought to take responsibility for how Trampoline interacts with users. This may be someone with a background in graphic design, interactive design, architecture or conceivably psychology or social anthropology. The candidate will need to have strong graphic design skills but they will also need to engage with the underlying concepts, structures and metaphors employed throughout the system. In many cases the challenge will be to represent complex information and choices in ways that make them simple for users to grasp and act upon. Through 2004 Trampoline's interface will be HTML-based with use of CSS and JavaScript. Therefore a high level of familiarity with these technologies and their behaviour in different browsers will be important. During 2005 the interface will evolve into a fluid and animated non-HTML technology and the candidate will need to develop a vision that can embrace this transition.

The candidate will initially be engaged as a contractor on a part-time basis. If the relationship is successful it will be extended to a permanent position with equity opportunities. Candidates from any location will be considered, but being in or near London will be an advantage. The company's personnel are currently located in London, San Francisco and an island near Bergen. The candidate must be comfortable managing themself and collaborating electronically with other personnel. English will be the principle language for collaboration. Salary will be respectful but not gratuitous, and will be increased appropriately should the candidate take an ongoing position. The candidate will have significant scope to input into strategic decisions and respond laterally to development objectives. The company's culture is open, creative and ambitious.

Anyone interested should contact Charles Armstrong (Chief Executive) with portfolio details and a CV. Short-listed candidates may be asked to prepare a submission to aid evaluation.

The company
Trampoline Systems Ltd is a UK-based software developer established in September 2003. The company's main product is the Trampoline Collaboration Engine, a web-based communication and information management platform. The system provides a range of services on top of an innovative collaborator model, derived from studies of information-sharing and decision-making processes in traditional communities. A prototype was implemented in 2002 with the UK School for Social Entrepreneurs (www.sse.org.uk). Development finance was raised in October 2003 from investors in San Francisco, Tokyo and the British Virgin Islands. This was supplemented in March 2004 by research funding from the UK Department of Trade and Industry. The first client-ready system was completed in December 2003 and shortly afterwards the first licence was purchased by the UK Foreign Office. This and further implementations will be used through 2004 to gain feedback about the system's performance and trial new components prior to launching on the full market in 2005.
