Lectureship/Senior Lectureship, Computing Science & Informatics Research

Post 1: £22,954 - £41,333

The University is committed to expanding its School of Computing Science
(RAE grade 5) and has also established an Informatics Research Institute
to provide a focus for interdisciplinary research in this area.
Professor Michael Harrison has been appointed director of the Institute,
and will take up his post on 1st July. The informatics post now
advertised is one of two which together with the Directorship, have been
created to form the nucleus of a cohesive unit that will establish its
own research agenda in the areas of virtual reality, mobile ubiquitous
technology and human computer interaction.

Post 2: £22,954 - £34,838

In addition, as part of its continuing programme of expansion, the
School of Computing Science is seeking to make a further appointment to
a lectureship. The appointee will be expected to participate in one or
more of the School's main research groups in dependability, distributed
systems, data-intensive systems, and theoretical computing science, and
to contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. Candidates for
both posts will be expected to hold a PhD in Computing and to have
developed a significant research record, or to show considerable promise
of doing so. In the case of the Informatics post, strong evidence of
ability to generate and foster interdisciplinary research is a
pre-requisite. Candidates who applied previously need not re-apply.

Enquiries can be made by electronically to Anke.Jackson@newcastle.ac.uk.
Prospective applicants are invited to discuss the posts informally with
the Head of School, Dr John Lloyd (John.Lloyd -AT- ncl.ac.uk, tel.

Lee (Computing Science - P.A.Lee -AT- ncl.ac.uk, tel. 0191-222-8176). Closing
Date: 25th June 2004.
