Senior Designer
Do you want to help change the world? Build an industry? Invent an entire new category of products? The Tablet PC team at Microsoft is looking for a senior designer with awesome design skills and the ability to influence product direction through compelling design vision. We need an innovator, someone who relishes solving tough design challenges, and a person who is comfortable with software and hardware, operating systems and applications, and consumer and enterprise users. We need someone who understands brand, and how to design a user experience that leverages the power of Windows, while designing an experience that is viewed as a premium experience by users. Tablet PC offers the place to stretch skills in new directions and an opportunity to use design to fundamentally change people's lives around the world while working with the support of a highly entrepreneurial, user-focused team.
In the Tablet PC organization you'll be helping define the design vision for the product, and working with the product team to make it real.
You'll design and drive the development of the platform and shell interactions for pen, mobile, control and annotation fundamentals around a nucleus of user needs, tasks, and business goals. Over time, you'll be working with a variety of emerging technologies such as speech, location awareness, and biometrics. The Tablet PC User Experience team contains expertise in all areas of the user experience from the application to user assistance to helping developers themselves build great experiences for the Tablet. It will be important for the successful candidate to be passionate about innovating on existing Windows conventions by creating new Tablet PC interaction and design patterns and influencing the design of partner teams like Windows, Office and others. Qualifications include a minimum of 5 years work experience with Windows related software products and/or consumer electronics, and demonstrated success in designing compelling successful products. Product ship and some design project management experience required, as is the ability to define and communicate brand through design.
Experience with user interface prototyping in HTML, Flash, Director, PhotoShop, etc. is required. Demonstrated ability to work confidently with Program Management, Swoftware Development, Product Planning, Industrial Design, User Assistance and Usability highly desired. Must be able to create experience design solutions that demonstrate ways in which Tablet interactions can improve and add value to the whole Microsoft computing experience (e.g., Windows, Office, MSN, and Media Center). Experience in either the enterprise or consumer space is required, and experience in both would be ideal. A BA/BS degree in Industrial Design, Graphic Design, Interaction Design or equivalent is required, and a higher level degree would be desirable.
In the next year, more notebooks will be sold than workstations and the trend will continue. In the next few years, those notebooks will be Tablets. Come join the future of truly personal computing!
