Overview:

The Consumer and Mobile Systems Group has an open position for a user experience designer. We are the group that develops technologies for mobile phones, PDAs, TV set top boxes, and many more consumer products.


The candidate would design and specify the overall user experience of operating environments and underlying user interface components for consumer products and technologies.


The ability to prototype ideas/approaches is critical. Multitasking and the ability to work under tight schedules are essential.


This position requires:

* Working with product teams that include engineering, marketing, QA, and technical writers

* Providing input on the design of APIs and designing platform interfaces with respect to user experience

* Working closely with visual designers in the group

* Overseeing and directing usability specialists in testing and other requirements gathering activities


The candidate should have a proven ability to work with people of varying backgrounds in software development (e.g., engineering, marketing, management, etc.). Familiarity with Java, particularly the Java 2 Platform, Micro Edition (J2ME) is desirable, but not required.


More important is experience designing user interfaces for consumer products, especially handhelds and cell phones.


The candidate should have:

- 5 years or more in product development and/or software engineering

environments.

- Solid knowledge of User Interface design/usability principles and

approaches.

- Knowledge of usability evaluations and other methods of collecting feedback.

- Familiarity with common prototyping tools (e.g., Director, Flash).

- Practical knowledge of HTML, Java, and other Internet technologies.

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

- Ability to attend and lead meetings and deliver presentations.

- - A sense of humor, since we are a fun and friendly group of folks who enjoy working together!
