Job Description- Human Factors Engineers - Engineering Operations PURPOSE OF POSITION General Dynamics Canada will have requirements for several Human Factors Engineers. There are both permanent and temporary (6-12 months) positions available. As a result of recent program wins and anticipated future program wins General Dynamics Canada has identified an increased demand for Human Factors Engineering (HFE) to the extent that our in-house center of excellence is expanding. In anticipation of contract awards, General Dynamics Canada will be making contingent offers of employment to satisfy the following requirement. Contingent offers will be recognized once General Dynamics Canada receives official notice of successful contract award, with initial set to work in early September.
TYPICAL DUTIES
· Provide consistent and cost effective HFE project support across the total organization as required.
· In concert with the project technical authorities, prepare HFE Program Plans, reports and other documentation that meet the requirements of the project.
· Perform HFE tasks defined by project documentation · Provide mentoring, coaching and training to other HFE practitioners and project team members.
· Create processes as required to ensure consistent, timely and effective HFE program implementation across the organization.
· Contribute to sub-contract definition and management in the domain of HFE.
EXPERIENCE
* Since there are several positions available, a range of experience and skills are suitable, including Junior (at least 2 years of HFE experience), Working (at least 5 years of HFE experience) and Senior (at least 10 years of HFE experience).
* Hands-on experience as a Human Factors Engineer on major defense programs is greatly preferred.
* Work experience in avionics design and development is highly desirable.
* Senior HFE applicants should be eligible for certification as human factors professionals with the Canadian College for the Certification of Professional Ergonomists or the Board of Certification in Professional Ergonomics (USA) or demonstrated equivalent. Junior HFE applicants should be eligible to be members of a human factors and/or ergonomics professional association.
KNOWLEDGE
For each position, knowledge of a majority of the following areas is required, although specialization in a group of areas could also be appropriate:
· Survey and interview techniques for soliciting and prioritizing user needs.
· Translation of user needs analysis or other engineering analysis to design requirements.
· Methods to identify and evaluate technical/project HFE alternatives that meet system requirements.
· Trade study methods in the domain of HFE.
· Methods and levels of system verification throughout the life cycle.
· Thorough familiarity with the content and application of military and industrial guidelines and standards for the planning and execution of Human Engineering Programs (e.g. MIL-STD-1472, MIL-HDBK-46855).
· Methods to assess, monitor, and mitigate HFE risks.
· Human performance simulation and modeling using tools such as IPME.
· Ability to coordinate schedules, processes, and deliveries of work products with customers and suppliers.
· Understanding of the product development life cycle from need or opportunity identification to system disposal.
· Integrated Product Development and the role of Integrated Product Teams.
· Human-Computer Interface design and evaluation · The interaction between the Human Systems Integration elements (HFE, System Safety, Health Hazards, Training, Personnel and Manpower) EDUCATION
* An appropriate Bachelors degree such as Human Factors Engineering, Systems Design/Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Psychology, Kinesiology.
* Post Graduate studies in Human Factors or related discipline is desirable.
