USABILITY & MARKET RESEARCH ANALYST
MISSION:
The role of the Usability & Market Research Analyst is to contribute to the success of products by conducting appropriate user and market research, iterative design, and testing. The Research Analyst is responsible for identifying product and marketing opportunities and for presenting results of research along with specific product and marketing recommendations based upon research findings. The Analyst will collaborate closely with Product Managers, Marketing, and Software Engineers, in the continual measurable improvement of various UOL products and features.
TECHNICAL SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
- BS/BA or MS/MFA degree in Human Factors, Cognitive Psychology, Human-Computer Interaction, Graphics Design, or equivalent work experience.
- Demonstrated experience in conducting user studies with various scopes and formats.
- Strong understanding of GUI design concepts and emerging technologies.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills. Ability to clearly convey research methodologies and report findings verbally and in written form.
- Excellent analytical skills, especially with regard to assessing factors in user behavior. Ability to do task analysis and use-case creation. Strong attention to detail, objectivity, accuracy and consistency.
- Solid understanding of information architecture and interaction design principals.
- Proven ability to think strategically and creatively.
- Experience in a fast-paced, fast-changing, entrepreneurial team environment.
- Proven problem solving abilities.
- In-depth visual/graphical interface design skills and demonstrated ability to incorporate user-centered design principles into the architecture and design of user interfaces.
- Experience creating prototypes using Photoshop, Illustrator, Fireworks, Flash or other popular prototype building tools. Working knowledge of HTML, DHTML, CCS, JavaScript, and other web technologies, preferred.
DUTIES:
- Work with Product Management, Customer Support, Operations, Software Development, Business Development and other areas to understand and help prioritize key areas of opportunity for improvements. Enhance UOL product success through improved usability, design, and market presentation.
- Design and conduct usability tests, surveys, focus groups and other methods of gathering feedback from customers and potential customers during various phases of product development across a wide array of UOL products and potential products.
- Build online prototypes for product testing. Write use cases, create graphical user interface designs, user flow diagrams, and all necessary supporting documentation to facilitate effective testing and research.
- Conduct market research such as analysis of competitive feature sets, price plans, and company filings to help UOL understand opportunities across a wide array of products.
- Gather and interpret data through log analysis and survey data analysis.
- Produce and present excellent reports and presentations describing research methodologies and findings with a strong focus on metrics and objectivity. Make concrete, data-driven recommendations for change based on your findings.
- Play leadership role in driving research. Work closely within Product Management to determine optimal methods of integrating findings into an iterative design process.
