The User Experience department at K12, Inc has an immediate opening in Mclean, VA for a Usability Specialist.

Title: Usability Specialist
Location: McLean, VA
Report to: Sean Fitzpatrick, Dir. Of User Experience
Effective: Immediately
Responsibilities
• Planning, executing, analyzing, and reporting on online user surveys.
• Plan and execute user research and feedback collection, including field studies, persona development, structured observation, and focus groups.
• Design and conduct usability studies, including laboratory testing, remote testing, and heuristic evaluations • Analyze all collected user data and present findings to project teams as part of a continuous feedback-driven improvement process
Required Qualifications
• BA/BS in Human Factors, Human-Computer Interaction, Experimental Psychology, Cognitive Psychology, Information Design, or related field.
MA highly preferred.
• 1-2 years experience in planning and executing usability studies, including user surveys, in-house or remote laboratory usability testing • Knowledge of current human-computer interaction and usability research, theories, best practices and methodologies • Demonstrated skill in research methodology and training in advanced statistics • Demonstrated skill in the principals of user-centered design • Experience with designing user surveys and analyzing data.
• Experience with interaction design and information architecture in a Web environment • Experience with conducting field research, such as structured observation and focus groups • Excellent written and oral communication skills • Ability to work in a fast-paced, cross-functional, product development environment.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience creating online surveys
• Experience with Macromedia Flash, Visio, Adobe Photoshop and other prototyping tools • Experience in K-12 classroom teaching • Background in the usage of technology in the classroom (Grades K-
12)
• Experience with SPSS PC and advanced Excel functionality.
