Interaction Designer Yahoo Photos
Are you a designer that is passionate about photos? Yahoo! Photos, one of the world's largest photo services, is looking for a talented Interaction Designer to join the User Experience and Design team.As an Interaction Designer, you will lead the design effort on a variety of projects in a highly collaborative, fast-paced environment. You will work closely with product and marketing managers, engineers, visual designers, web developers and user experience researchers to develop new product offerings and improve existing ones.
Primary responsibilities include:
- Applying user-centered design process to create high quality user experiences
- Setting product direction and UI requirements based on business, user and brand needs
- Designing user interaction models, workflows and user interfaces
- Creating prototypes and authoring detailed interaction specifications
- Working with user experience researchers to design and observe usability studies
- Translating usability and field research findings into design improvements
- Working with visual designers to improve and refine product visual design and consistency
- Working with web developers and engineers to deliver the final product
- Successfully communicating conceptual ideas and design rationale
Candidates must meet the following requirements:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Human Factors, HCI, cognitive science or related field
- At least 5+ years experience as a key member of user experience team participating in the complete product development lifecycle of several successfully launched web and/or software applications
- At least 3+ years experience leading large design efforts and coordinating project teams of 4 or more members
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Mastery of user-centered design process and expert interaction design skills
- Familiarity with field and lab-based usability research methodologies
- Familiarity with web technologies and strong technical leadership
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Ability to communicate design rationale and build consensus
- Ability to prioritize and manage work to critical project timelines in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to develop new approaches to complex design problems
- Must be organized, have an eye for detail and be able to put ideas into a tangible form
- Familiarity with the Windows and/or Macintosh Human Interface Guidelines a plus

Design Researcher
Yahoo! Inc. is looking for a User Experience Researcher to join the User Experience and Design team. As a User Experience Researcher at Yahoo!, you will participate as a key member in Yahoo's development teams that include product managers, visual and interaction designers, web developers, and engineers. You will also work closely with research counterparts in MarketResearch and Data Mining. You will be responsible for the user research, including planning and running usability studies, participatory design sessions, field studies, and heuristic evaluations. We are especially eager to find candidates with a passion for and experience in the area of online communication tools.Qualifications:
- Degree in Human Factors, Cognitive Psychology, or related area (or equivalent experience).
- Three plus years experience in gathering user requirements, field studies, usability testing, questionnaire/survey design, and user interface design.
- Experience conducting ethnographic research in corporate settings a plus.
- Must communicate clearly and effectively; able to collaborate actively with others in a cross-functional team.
- Must be organized, able to act independently, and able to switch rapidly between different projects in a fast-paced and exciting environment.
- Must pay attention to detail.
Additional qualifications:
- Master's degree/Ph.D. or 2 years experience in usability within a product development organization or large website.
- Experience with web application usability a plus.
- Experience with web page and web site design; HTML, Java, Perl, UNIX a plus.

Visual Designer for Search
Yahoo! Inc. is looking for a Visual Design to join the User Experience & Design team within Search & Marketplace. As a Visual Designer you will work closely with interaction designers, usability researchers, producers, web developers, and engineers to develop the visual presentation for Yahoo! Search.Responsibilities
- Participate in concept development and design ideation
- Create visual designs that address business, brand, market, and user requirements, including the design and production of screen layouts, color palettes, typography, user interface elements
- Produce design specifications, storyboards, scenarios, design prototypes
- Successfully communicate conceptual ideas, design rationale and the specifics of user centered design process
- Collaborate with producers and interaction designers to refine the user experience
- Work with web developers and engineers to deliver the final product
- Assist in project coordination across functional teams
Qualifications
- Candidates must have a solid understanding of user-centered design principles, careful attention to detail, as well as ability to grasp multiple product requirements
- Bachelor?s or Master's degree in Graphic Design, Digital Media Design or other visual arts
- Ideally 3-5 years experience as a key member of a UI team participating in the complete product development lifecycle of several successfully launched web and/or software applications
- Must demonstrate strong design skills including screen layouts, information design, and typography, and must have a great eye for detail
- Experience working on Search or related products preferred.
- Able to develop new approaches to complex design problems and can convey ideas into tangible form
- Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work independently as well as in cross-functional groups
- Works well under pressure and able to meet aggressive deadlines
- Ability to prioritize and manage work to adhere to critical project timelines in a fast-paced environment
- Must have solid grasp of graphic and web design principles and good understanding of current web technologies (html, dhtml). Working knowledge of Flash desired.
