INTERACTION DESIGNER

The Web Experience group focuses on the online experience to ensure Blue Shield meets its goals for all portals (consumer, employer, provider, producer and employee). Our mission is to create an online experience that results in successful use of available features/functions thereby insuring return visits.

The Interaction Designer will play a leading role in:
* Raising all mylifepath interfaces to a consistently high standard of user-centered design and meeting or exceeding user expectations for every online interaction
* Ensuring that all content is clear to consumers helps them understand their plan benefits, and enables them to negotiate the healthcare system
* Delivering useable, useful, desirable, trustworthy design attributes that achieve objectives

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Functions as interaction designer to eBusiness projects
* Leads user persona development through field study and contextual inquiry research.
* Leads user task analysis and user requirements development.
* Leads Web Experience team (interaction design, visual design, editorial and usability) through project lifecycle using standard methodology.
* Designs information architectures, page schematics, interaction rules, and working prototypes to fulfill functional and user requirements for web-based content and applications.
* Leads content and document management initiatives.
* Leads collaboration among various project owners, contributors, and stakeholders.
* Acts as UI consultant during the implementation phase as necessary.
* Hires and oversees outside consultants as needed.
* Refines and helps socialize standardized steps and approaches that form part of an overarching iterative design process.
* Helps evangelize the user experience framework throughout the company.
* Manages 2-3 direct reports. Supervises work of other internal staff and vendors on a project basis. May have direct supervisory responsibilities for contractors.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree (BA) from four-year college or university; Degree in Computer Science, Cognitive Psychology, Human Computer Interaction or equivalent. 5+ years professional experience as an interaction designer or information architect.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL & ABILITIES:
* Experience conducting user research and developing user personas.
* Experience developing user requirements using Use Case methodologies.
* Experience developing templates, workflow, taxonomy and categorization for CMS and search engines.
* Experience creating sketches, flowcharts, storyboards and web-based prototypes to demonstrate and test functional designs.
* Ability to understand and interpret existing site design and style guides and create effective solutions within those guidelines.
* Working knowledge of various web-related technologies including HTML, XML, JavaScript
* Working knowledge of visual design tools including Visio, Photoshop, Illustrator
* Familiarity with user centered design methods including task analysis and user scenarios
* Experience with usability test planning and moderating is desired.
* Ability to translate usability test results into design requirements or adjustments.
* Experience leading cross-functional teams during discovery and design phases of projects
* Proven team-building skills
* Excellent interpersonal skills; able to work with all levels in the organization
* Strong leadership skills including strong strategic skills
* Strong negotiation skills
* Ability to think quickly and assimilate complex issues and ideas quickly
* Excellent meeting facilitation & small group presentation skills
* Strong project management skills – work plans, issues, lists, planning and prioritizing
