Position Description:
The senior interaction designer will work closely with Marketing, Engineering, and Program Managers. This person will plan and conduct end-user research at customer sites, generate personas and scenarios, and generate prototypes to inform the design of web-based applications. These applications range from complex network management suites to consumer-level products to end-user facing websites and tools. Responsibilities include: * preparing plans for and conducting ethnographic research using appropriate research and data analysis methods * generating user personas and scenarios
* conducting heuristic reviews and usability studies on existing tools and products * generating prototypes ranging from paper-and-pencil concepts to HTML wireframes to high-fidelity designs that represent both the visual identity and interaction model required to ensure user success on the product being esigned. * engaging with product teams to negotiate the priority of recommendations relative to user needs versus development time constraints * demonstrating the business case for your efforts on each product Most projects require a clear understanding of design constraints on the web, as well as cross-platform and cross-browser design issues. Your efforts will result in improved product usability, usefulness, and desirability in collaboration with the UE team, Project Managers, and Development Engineers.
Qualifications / Experience:
Qualifications: * At least 5 years of relevant work experience in interaction design working under peer review with a usability or user-centered design team. * Demonstrated ability to produce ecologically valid test designs that answer a key research question, while understanding the impact on other variables in the user's environment. * Superior communication and collaboration skills. Must be able to build solid relationships with developers and marketing to deliver agreed results. * Previous experience working with a UI team producing designs for networking or telephony products. * Skilled at multiple forms of data gathering. * Graduate degree in Cognitive Psychology, Industrial Design, or related HCI field.
