Senior Web Usability Engineer position at the Vanguard Group
Are you an expert in human/computer interaction? Our Web Services Group is looking for a Senior Web Usability Engineer to conduct research and usability testing for our award-winning website.
The usability engineer will provide leadership in the planning and execution of user-centered activities, such as user research (including contextual inquiries, field studies, and surveys) and usability testing at different stages of the design process. He or she will interact with business managers, design architects, visual designers, and project managers throughout the design life cycle in order to achieve stakeholders objectives and meet the target audiences needs and expectations. A clear understanding of user needs will be required to balance and ensure achievement of business goals.
The usability engineer will determine appropriate methodologies, collect data, summarize findings, and report results to management and project teams. He or she will identify, prioritize, and track usability issues and make design recommendations. The usability engineer will use his or her knowledge of design principles to conduct heuristic evaluations of sites when appropriate. In addition, he or she will help to develop and implement website standards and to promote user-centered design throughout the organization.
The usability engineer will be expected to keep abreast of current HCI issues and best practices, contribute to the development of user-centered processes and strategies, and establish strong relationships with business and Web groups to ensure that user-centered design principles are incorporated in our website.
Position Requirements:
Advanced degree (masters or preferably a Ph.D.) or equivalent training in human-factors engineering, human-computer interaction, cognitive psychology, or a similar field.
Minimum five years experience in user-centered design techniques, such as creating user profiles; analyzing users tasks and needs and articulating conceptual models of users complex tasks; and planning, conducting, and summarizing usability studies.
Minimum three years experience in Web design.
Ability to make strategic and tactical design recommendations based on usability findings and standard design practices.
Solid understanding of websites and Web application design and working knowledge of HTML.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Must be able to communicate and work productively in a multidisciplinary environment.
Project-management skills.
Desired skills:
Experience determining which user-centered design techniques are appropriate throughout the interface development life cycle.
Previous experience with financial websites.
