CHAIRPERSON: The Department of Psychology at Texas Tech University invites applications and nominations for the position of chairperson to begin September 1, 2005. Psychologists in all fields may apply, and applicants should have academic credentials commensurate with appointment to the rank of tenured professor. Candidates must demonstrate a sustained record of achievement in research, publication, teaching, and service and should present a clear departmental vision. The successful applicant must be able to work with scholars in diverse areas and foster department-wide excellence. Relevant administrative experience is desirable. Our 29-faculty department has 895 majors and 100 doctoral students. The department administers APA-accredited doctoral programs in clinical psychology and counseling psychology, an HFES-accredited doctoral program in human factors, and doctoral programs in cognitive/applied cognitive and social psychology. Texas Tech, a state-supported institution with approximately 28,000 students, offers a wide array of undergraduate, graduate, and professional programs. A law school and medical school are located on campus. Lubbock is a city of about 200,000 people, located in spacious West Texas, and is a commercial, medical, and cultural hub. It enjoys a warm and dry climate, proximity to the mountains of New Mexico, and access nationwide through a modern international airport.
