The Department of Software and Information Systems (SIS) at the University of North Carolina (UNC) at Charlotte has multiple tenure-track positions available at the assistant and associate professor levels. The Department is dedicated to research and education in Information Technology and applications, with emphasis in the areas of Information Integration & Environments and Information Security & Assurance. SIS offers degrees at the Bachelors, Masters, and Ph.D. levels.
The SIS Department is particularly interested in faculty with research expertise in the following areas:
-Human-Computer Interaction
-Software Engineering
-Trusted Information Infrastructures
-Trusted Software Development
Highly qualified candidates in other areas that align with departmental goals will also be considered. Additional areas of interest include: Information Security, Information Privacy, Information Integration, Intelligent Systems, Pervasive Computing, and Collaborative Systems.
The Department is dedicated to creating a world-class community of scholars. It is currently in a period of significant growth, whereby providing new faculty with a unique opportunity to shape its future. Current faculty members have strong research programs, with substantial funding from both federal agencies and industry, in information security and privacy, enterprise integration, computer assisted collaborative work, and knowledge management.
In April 2004, the Laboratory of Information Integration, Security, and Privacy (LIISP) within the Department was recertified by National Security Agency (NSA) as a Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education. UNC Charlotte is one of the first 23 universities across the nation to gain this designation for their distinction in information assurance, privacy and security education.
The Department is also a core participant of the eBusiness Technology Institute jointly established by UNC Charlotte, Bank of America, and Wachovia Bank.
Salary for the positions will be highly competitive. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related field, as well as a strong commitment to teaching, scholarship, and sponsored research.
