Vice President, Yahoo! UEDBased in Yahoo!’s corporate headquarters in Sunnyvale, California, the Vice President of User Experience Design (UED) will report to the Chief Product Officer. The successful candidate will be charged with directing Yahoo!’s global UED efforts, initiatives, and people into the next generation of world class design and experiences across a comprehensive portfolio of products and services. This individual will be charged with crafting and driving the global strategy inclusive of creative as well as operations, for this group, which touches all Yahoo! products and services. He/She will interface with Yahoo! senior executives in formulating product strategy and will partner with functional and Business Unit management to provide superior user experiences to address user and business needs.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead, manage, and direct day-to-day operations with oversight responsibility for key performance drivers and resulting operating metrics.
- Develop and champion a guiding vision for Yahoo’s user experience at the highest levels of the organization.
- Understand the needs of internal and external customers, the business, and the competitive landscape. Translate this understanding into a vision and strategic plan for research and design to meet the needs of the company.
- Prioritize incoming work against strategic and tactical goals.
- Ensure successful knowledge sharing and improve visual, functional, and conceptual consistency across products and components. Oversee the development of design standards, guidelines, and best practices.
- Partner with product management and business unit leaders to define product strategy, product definition, and user experience.
- Partner with Brand Marketing on brand architecture, promotions, branding treatments in products.
- Partner with Engineering on the development of new interface conventions and code libraries to ensure consistent and efficient deployment of design.
- Partner with Advertising and Sales to establish guidelines for advertising on the Yahoo! network, based on insights on user behavior and attitudes toward advertising.
- Shape the role of research and design in product development by championing and demonstrating user-centered processes, methods, and projects. Oversee the successful integration of research and design to ensure the team is effective at influencing product strategy.
- Be a great people manager who can lead, inspire, and direct the activities of people within and outside the organization.
- Ensure high performance of the organization by clearly defining team member responsibilities, empowering team members to fulfill their responsibilities and supporting their efforts to do so, tracking progress and providing feedback, holding team members responsible for meeting agreed-upon goals, while demonstrating flexibility to address changing circumstances, and recognizing above-standard performances.
