PhD Studentships: EU Framework 6 Programme, IST, ENABLED Virtual Engineering Centre Queen's University Belfast

Applications are invited for a PhD studentship in the Virtual Engineering Centre (VEC) at Queen's University Belfast to undertake research into assistive technologies that improve visually impaired people's access to the Internet. This exciting opportunity is the result of collaboration between two world-class research centers: the VEC and the Sonic Arts Research Centre (SARC).

The studentship is supported by an Integrated Project - ENABLED, funded by the EU Framework 6 Programme within the IST priority for 3 years. The ENABLED (Enhanced Network Accessibility for the Blind and Visually Impaired) project aims to reduce the gap between the potential impact of Information Technology and the benefit that it brings to blind and visually impaired people. This major project, which is lead by Queen's University, involves 14 partners across Europe, and regular collaboration with the other partners will be required. Work will be conducted in the following areas to achieve the project objectives: (1) accessibility of Web content, (2) adaptive interface, and (3) accessing methods (on desktop or mobile and wireless).
