Postdoctoral position

Human Computer Interaction
The M.I.N.D. (Media Interface and Network Design, www.mindlab.org ) Lab at Michigan State University is seeking an enthusiastic, team-building researcher trained in human-computer interaction. The position is a full time, 12 month appointment open for annual renewal.
Responsibilities
Lead Experimenter (50%)
• Devote 50 % time as lead experimenter on an NSF funded project called Mobile Infospaces. (www.mindlab.org).
• Conduct experiments on spatial cognition and action within the M.I.N.D.
Lab's augmented reality experiment test bed.
• Theory building and literature reviews in the area of spatial cognition and action.
• Administer research teams of graduate and undergraduate students for this project.
M.I.N.D. Lab Manager (50%).
• Senior research support for the lab including HCI research in the lab.
• Human subjects administration, support of data analysis working with graduate students, supervise the lab's internal internship program • Work closely with the lab's Director on administration and grant writing.
Qualifications
• Candidates should possess a Ph.D. in experimental psychology, human computer interaction or a closely related field.
• Experience in working within research teams and leading students in research.
• Research experience in spatial updating and cognition, spatial schema, perceptual learning, presence, or related areas desirable.
• Solid methodological background in experimental design and data analysis are critical.
• Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and push forward a program of research.
Work Environment
Media Interface and Network Design (M.I.N.D.) Labs : The Media Interface and Network Design Labs ( www.mindlab.org ) are a network of human- computer interaction research labs focused on the interaction of mind and media, especially on ways in which media can be better adapted and tailored to the mind. The M.I.N.D. Labs have networked facilities at several American universities and overseas in Russia , Germany , Finland , Netherlands , Portugal , and Spain . The Michigan State M.I.N.D. Lab is the original founding lab, home to the Directorship of the M.I.N.D. Labs.
Facilities include virtual reality and augmented reality systems, wide screen and rear projection systems, over 25 graphics work stations, and various research and measurement systems.
The Department of Telecommunication, Information Studies and Media: The Telecommunication Department has an international reputation in a number of areas. Faculty specializing in video, audio, 3D/VR, and multimedia come together to form the core DMAT faculty (http://dmat.msu.edu). BA, MA, and Ph.D. programs are offered including an MA specialization in DMAT.
Collaborative interest in digital media arts is also strong in related departments within the college and also outside the college, including education, computer science, and music. Some Telecommunication Faculty also have appointments in Cognitive Science.
College of Communication Arts and Sciences : The department is in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences, which was the nation's very first college of communication. Today, it remains an innovative and leading international center for all forms of research and teaching on human communication: Telecommunication, Communication (interpersonal, organizational, and social effects), Audiology and Speech Sciences, Advertising, and Journalism.
Michigan State University . Founded in 1855, Michigan State University is situated in East Lansing , a pleasant university town just on the border of Lansing , Michigan state's capitol. The Michigan State University campus is quite large with over 5000 acres of land, 150 major buildings, over 7000 types of trees and shrubs, 33 miles of roads, and 99 miles of walkways. The campus is home to over 40,000 students from all continents and about 4000 faculty and staff. The cost of living is very reasonable.
