Faculty Position in Human-Computer Interaction
The Human-Computer Interaction Institute at Carnegie Mellon University expects to have up to two new tenure-track faculty positions, starting in September 2005. We will consider outstanding candidates in any area of HCI. However, we are especially interested in candidates whose research interests are in the areas of learning technologies or social computing or collaborative environments, and who implement systems or perform rigorous laboratory or field studies as part of their research approach. We expect to hire at the assistant professor level but will consider more senior candidates as well.
Faculty members in the Human-Computer Interaction Institute design novel systems for usefulness, ease of use, and enjoyment, develop scientific principles for designing and testing systems, and study the impact of technology on people, organizations, and society.
All candidates are expected to have a strong interest in research, outstanding academic credentials, and terminal degrees appropriate to their course of study (e.g. an earned Ph.D. in computer science or a behavioral science or an MFA in design). Candidates should also have a strong interest in graduate and undergraduate education. The highly selective undergraduate, masters and PhD programs in the HCI Institute draw top students from around the world.
Review of faculty applications will begin on December 15, 2004. To ensure full consideration, applications should be received by January 15, 2005.
Each application should include curriculum vitae, statement of research and teaching interests, copies of 1-3 representative papers, and the names and email addresses of three or more individuals who have been asked to provide letters of reference. Applicants should arrange for reference letters to be sent directly to the Faculty Search Committee (hard copy or email). Letters will NOT be requested directly by the Search Committee.
All applications should indicate citizenship and, in the case of non-US citizens, describe current visa status. All required material is to be sent to:
