Software Development Engineer UI – Strategic Communications - Amazon.com
Position Summary
Amazon.com’s Strategic Communications team is seeking a talented software engineer to design, build and support interactive features and online signature events for the Amazon.com site. We specialize in high-profile projects that generate media headlines, create consumer buzz and showcase the Amazon.com platform in unique and innovative ways. In this new position, you’ll get to apply your technical and creative genius to build distinctive and compelling online experiences that delight and inspire millions of customers. One of a small group of developers on this innovative team, you’ll work on projects that span Amazon.com so you’ll have significant opportunities to collaborate with other technical experts across the company.
Position Requirements
Candidates must excel at developing innovative technology solutions and be obsessed with creating compelling customer experiences using multiple media formats (audio, video, books, music and film). The candidate must also anticipate new development environments, easily adapt to changing business requirements, and make smart trade-offs between features, schedules and resources. Other required skills include: strong C/C++, OOAD and OOP skills; strong familiarity with Unix/Linux; good knowledge of OO Perl, Java, XML, CGI, Web protocols, Mason, experience with Apache services, Berkeley databases and caching technologies; an undergraduate degree in Computer Science along with five years relevant experience; proven ability to project manage through full project lifecycles and support multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines; excellent verbal and written skills; ability to work exceptionally well with technical teams and other disciplines (business development, PR, etc.) across the company. Experience in the arts or having related skills (DHTML, Javascript/Photoshop/Director/Shockwave/Flash) is a definite plus.
Job Responsibilities
• Create and support technical solutions for Amazon.com to deliver new forms of content in a trivially simple way for customers.
• Design and build elegant solutions for Amazon.com to wow customers with signature content and promotions.
• Design, build and operationalize solutions that leverage the Amazon.com platform to support Amazon.com’s community relations and philanthropic efforts.
• Design and build end-to-end technology solutions that support the company’s holiday promotions to delight customers and increase the value of the Amazon.com brand.
• Design and support the next version of the Amazon.com employee intranet.
• Partner effectively with other Amazon.com teams to ensure that Strategic Communication’s technology solutions are high quality, supportable, scalable and integrate cleanly with Amazon.com’s technical infrastructure.
• Partner effectively with other Strategic Communications team members to:
o enable business owners to make smart technology decisions.
o translate project business requirements and team ideas into compelling, yet simple technology solutions that meet business objectives and are delivered on time and within budget.
• Create and maintain technical specifications, project plans and other documentation required to design, build, test and support Strategic Communications sites and software applications.
• Other projects and duties as assigned.
