Design Manager for Acrobat Product Family
Location: San Jose
Adobe is seeking a creative, self-motivated, and enthusiastic Design Manager to join its User Interface Design Team. This person will be managing a team of interaction and visual designers focused on developing innovative, future-looking designs for Acrobat family applications. The manager will think strategically as well as tactically. The work will include supporting and mentoring the designers in the creation of solutions to overcome current customer pain points, as well as in the shaping of and driving forward of designs for the next generation of user interfaces. The manager will be involved in evangelizing these efforts among designers and across the company with the aim of creating a dramatically improved Adobe user experience.
This manager will be responsible for working effectively with the individual product teams and with the UI Team's cross-functional disciplines, which includes User Interaction Designers, User Researchers, Visual Designers, and Technical Writers. The manager will also be responsible for creating new links and synergies between other customer- focused groups (Sales, Instructional Communication, Product Management, Product Marketing).
A degree in Human Computer Interaction, Graphic Design, Psychology, Engineering, or equivalent experience is required. Should have 7-10 years of relevant work experience -- with at least 3 years designing desktop applications and 3 years managing design teams. Familiarity with Acrobat is desired.

• Strategic abilities: Can establish and effectively communicate direction, can understand and synthesize product strategy, can collaborate with senior-level partners, can align and motivate the staff, can energize people to overcome obstacles, can motivate creative teams to collaborate, and successfully facilitate design discussions and brainstorming sessions.
• Tactical abilities: Can create project plans and schedules, can track and coordinate tasks, can manage budgets, can coach and develop staff, can hire and recruit staff, can proactively identify problems and propose solutions, can effectively resolve conflicts.
