Client is looking for a user experience researcher to join the User Experience & Design (UED) team for Client Personals, Client’s industry-leading online dating service on a contract basis. In this position you are expected to foster and support a collaborative, innovative culture, working closely with visual designers, interaction designers, product managers and technologists to help define the user experience strategy, spearhead a user centered design process and develop usable, useful and compelling web experiences.
Primary Function:
Lead user experience research efforts on Client Personals. Interface with Product managers and user experience designers on the vision and strategy to create products and services that best meet user needs and ensure that relevant data are collected, analyzed and interpreted to support the strategy.
Responsibilities:
* Responsible for the user research, including planning and running usability studies, benchmark studies, competitive evaluations, participatory design sessions, ethnographic field studies, user surveys, heuristic evaluations, and similar methods.
* Provide insight and vision for the team based on researching user needs. Convert research findings into actionable items.
* Work closely with interaction designers, visual designers, product managers, marketing, technologists, and other user experience researchers to improve and define the user experience
of Client Personals.
* Collaborate with other research organizations within Client (market researchers and data mining analysts) in order to create comprehensive coordinated research.
* Understand the business needs, while researching the needs of the user, in order to create solutions and opportunities for the business unit.
Qualifications:
* Master's degree or Ph.D. in Human Factors, Human-Computer Interaction, Cognitive or Experimental Psychology, Cognitive Science, Anthropology, or related area (or equivalent experience).
* At least 3 years experience in user experience research/design research, conducting ethnographic research, heuristic evaluations, usability testing, benchmark testing, competitive evaluations, and questionnaire/survey design within a product development organization or large website.
* Experience researching user needs throughout the complete product development cycle of successfully launched web and/or software application products.
* Able to develop creative approaches to researching complex user experience problems and can convey ideas in tangible form.
* Must communicate clearly and effectively to varying audiences; have strong analytical skills; have excellent interpersonal skills; able to collaborate actively with others in a cross-functional team with the ability to build consensus.
* Able to switch rapidly between different projects in a fast-paced environment.
* Must be innovative, demonstrate an ability to "think out of the box", and think beyond what is asked for.
* Must pay attention to detail, yet be able to see the big picture and maximize work effort.
* Familiarity with quantitative data analysis and experience with Vividence and/or Netraker user research tools a plus.
