Principal Interaction Designer (User Interface Designer)

Avid is the leading provider of professional video editing tools. We seek a talented interaction designer to create innovative interfaces for our video editing products that maximize ease of use and productivity.
You will be the lead interaction designer for a significant multi-year project. You will be responsible for driving a user-centric interaction design process. Your tasks may include:
• Identify and prioritize user personas
• Identify goals of those personas
• Determine tasks that enable users to meet goals
• Design interfaces to perform tasks
• Produce detailed interaction specifications
• Direct a graphic designer
• Work with development team and review implementation
• Verify usability of designs before and after implementation
• Observe customers in their workplace
• Analyze competing products
You will work with the product marketing, engineering, product support, quality assurance and documentation groups. You should be skillful at working with different constituencies and negotiating competing agendas to produce products with maximum business value. You must be able to work collaboratively with a team while making significant individual contributions. You will work to deadlines and make design tradeoffs based on priorities, design cost, and implementation cost.

• Able to think outside of the box to identify better ways for users to achieve their end goals.
• Meticulous with an eye for detail and completeness.
• Fluent in modern UI paradigms for large, complex media creation applications.
• Fluent with Windows and Macintosh platform standards
• Familiar with strengths and weaknesses of human cognition and how to apply that knowledge to interaction design.
Requirements:
• Minimum BA/BS degree, preferably in Interaction Design, Human Computer Interaction, Cognitive Psychology, or other related discipline.
• A portfolio of previous interaction designs.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong project leadership skills.
