Researchers in Human–Computer Interaction (two posts)

Applications are invited for two posts to work closely together in a European FP6 area of novel user interface technologies in the field of Air Traffic Control.
You will work within the AD4 Virtual Airspace Management Project in the Interaction Design Centre, based initially at the University’s Trent Park campus in north London.
The Middlesex component of the work will involve studying how existing air traffic control work is carriedout and formulating design concepts for how 3D virtual reality-type technologies may be deployed to support ATC work. The 10 member consortium will develop a prototype system that will then be evaluated.
For the Researcher HCI - Human Factors (ref COM161T), you should have a relevant higher degree or equivalent research experience, such as in psychology, cognitive engineering or computer science. Expertise in conducting field studies of work practice is desirable.
For the Researcher HCI - Computing(ref COM162T), you should have experience in Human–Computer Interaction and software development. A higher degree or equivalent research related to computing science, HCI or cognitive engineering is essential. Knowledge of programming in an object-oriented language is desirable.
For both posts an interest in Air Traffic Control or other complex safety critical systems is desirable, as is experience in user interface design, information visualisation and computer supported co-operative work.
