Senior Usability Specialist, MasterCard International (St. Louis, MO) The successful candidate will ensure that usability is incorporated into the development of a wide range of projects: Internet sites, intranet sites, extranet sites, web-based applications, client/server applications and wireless applications, and other emerging payment technology products.
Responsibilities:
• Select and conduct appropriate user-centered design techniques throughout an iterative design process.
• Analyze and present user evaluation results.
• Make design recommendations based on expertise and the collected data.
• Facilitate cross-functional teams throughout product definition, design and development processes.
• Translate client and user needs into user and functional requirements • Conduct user experiential studies including user profiling, metal modeling, and contextual task analysis • Conduct usability studies including formal and semi-formal usability testing, and card sorting activities including the design and execution of paper and live questionnaires and interviews • Determine information architecture, taxonomy, and nomenclature • Design site maps/page flow • Develop wire frames that specify functions and layout • Test wire frame to Business Analysis deliverables • Write clear, concise reports to communicate issues, resolution and risks.
• Assist with the definition and implementation of interface design guidelines and a user centered design methodology.
• Educate business owners and developers on the importance of design guidelines and usability testing.
• Remain current in usability-related research and developments.

• Employ effective coaching skills to mobilize diverse resources toward satisfying established project goals.
• Investigate, evaluate and recommend new and merging usability techniques, technologies, and methodology process improvements.
• Responsible for developing new external accounts and maintaining client satisfaction • Directly manages and develops engagements with external clients.
Education
BS Degree or equivalent combination of experience and formal education.
Specialized training/experience in Human Factors, Usability, Information or Interface Design preferred.
Experience/Knowledge
Applies extended expertise of standard principles, theories, concepts and techniques plus in depth knowledge business/function and development life cycle, usually acquired through four or more years of experience.
• A strong command of a range of usability and design techniques including formal usability testing, heuristic evaluation, paper prototyping, wireframe and sitemap creation, focus groups, design sessions, task analysis, conceptual design, surveys, and online quantitative testing.
• At least 5-6 years experience as an usability engineer, information architect, or user interface design, designing a variety of technology solutions.
• Experience managing and mentoring others.
• BS / BA in relevant field including Human-Computer Interaction, Cognitive Science, Experimental Psychology or Human Factors.
• Consulting experience preferred.
• The ability to work effectively within a team environment.
• The ability to manage and prioritize projects.
Special Skills
Provide direction on large scale projects. Competent to manage external client projects. Able to work with any project at any development stage.
The following skills would also be considered as highly desirable:
• Skills in interviewing, observation and task analysis • Facilitation skills • Experience w/user-centered strategy generation and/or design methods • Excellent oral and written communication skills • User Interface/Information Design
