Fundamental Role: The core of user centered design teams. A career track position. A majority of user researchers are in this classification. Directly responsible for the design and execution of key research projects. Contributing member of a design or product development team. Use principals of behavioral science to design studies that result in solid data-drive product/feature recommendations. Responsible for selecting appropriate study methodology, developing participant screeners, moderating user studies and contextual inquiries with non-leading language, collecting and tabulating behavioral and attitudinal data, and communicating findings via written reports and verbal debriefs. Work deliverables are accurate, data-driven and include actionable recommendations that achieve ease of use metrics and align with business goals. Business goals and ease of use metrics are determined prior to each project, always include user effectiveness (e.g., 90% success rates), and often include user efficiency (fast completion time) and satisfaction. Needs no direction on medium projects and only some direction on large complex projects.
Influence primarily impacts specific project but will often affect related projects.

Qualifications:

* Research fundamentals including study design, survey research, research methods, basic statistics. (B.A. or M.S. in the behavioral sciences or equivalent).
* Knowledge of software and web design and production processes
* Deep knowledge of classic findings and methodologies used in cognitive psychology, social psychology, perception, anthropology and the industry.
* Significant understanding of the supported products' purpose(s) and how they work
* Experience with effectively executing user research projects and recommendations through the complete product development process.
* Knowledge of accessibility and cross-cultural best practices.
* Knowledge of current software tools (e.g., SPSS, SAS, Visio, Photoshop, HTML)
* Deep understanding of the perspectives and needs of the customers for each supported project (E.g., business goals, pain points, frequency of feature use).
