The Staples Usability team continues to be one of the thought leaders in usability and is growing to meet company demand for our services. We are comprised of researchers, information architects and analytics experts. Our mission is to cut costs and increase sales by using science to analyze behavior and optimize design. No easy task, but one that is achievable with a focused, all-star team of experts all driving to the same goal.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Project Management:
Usability project manager on day-to-day Staples associate-facing applications and systems. In this capacity you will:
* Act as usability lead and perform usability activities on various associate facing projects.
* Implement comprehensive research programs.
* Review requirements documents and deliverables for projects.
* Coordinate research findings for designs and task flows.
* Review vendor applications to determine usability level; make recommendations on improvement as needed.
* Manage contractor resources as required by projects
In the context of the above, perform the following tasks:
Perform usability activities and ensure that user needs are represented throughout the iterative cycles of applications and projects.
Perform activities using methodologies consisting of competitive reviews, focus groups, heuristic reviews, field studies, usability tests, surveys, cognitive walkthroughs and other means.
Research Execution:
Perform data collection activities in accordance with research strategies, and provide input impacting the strategic direction of usability research. Work with internal teams to understand the implications of test findings.
Requirements
Minimum of an MS degree in Human Factors, Cognitive Psychology or related discipline required.
Minimum of 4 years of usability experience in a corporate or consulting environment required.
Experience performing user experience research within a usability group at a large corporation. Must understand how to navigate a matrixed organization. Skilled in assertive diplomacy.
Strong experience in usability testing practices and theory and demonstrated skill in conducting usability testing of associate-facing applications in a large organization. These may include legacy (e.g., character-based systems), intranet or traditional client-side applications.
Keen ability to help communicate results of data impacting associate facing interfaces and the affect of user experience on associate performance and satisfaction.
Experience as usability researcher in call centers, operations, logistics and other CSR-facing interfaces required. Experience in a retail environment a huge plus.
Experience putting a GUI on top of command line, green screen interface required. Sensitivity to the socialization of that process with end users a big plus.
Deep understanding of human behavior as demonstrated through professional and educational study
Understanding of information architecture principles.
Approximately 15%-20% travel required.
