Wireless Branded Digital Media Products Master, Digital Orchid

Jan 19 05

Source: ID Discuss

All, hope this isn't too far off topic but I know there are a lot of talented people on this list who may be interested in this sort of thing. I've been interviewing for a couple weeks and am broadening the search a little. Please shoot me back an e-mail with your resume and/or url: asmith@digitalorchid.com if you're interested.

Digital Orchid is hiring several full-time employee positions in the following area:

Wireless Branded Digital Media Products Master

This role is much like a web master for cell phone wireless media products. The role is responsible for content feature design, content configuration and development, deployment, operations and maintenance of name-branded consumer products having thousands of subscribers.
Typical product areas include sports, entertainment, music, models, and more, and may contain one or more of real-time (<1 sec latency) applications, screensavers, ringtones, alerts, video, audio and other digital media.

This is a great way to get into the wireless products field while staying on a software career track. Digital Orchid provides very competitive salary, stock options, and benefits compensation.

Required skills include:

* ability to 'get into' the mind and hearts of the remote product's consumers to recommend and make changes that evolve the product, and develop the subscriber base into a growing, dedicated and enthusiastic following - much like a good web site
* ability to use XML, HTML and learn similar variations of web-like markup languages
* ability to use a variety of cell phone models
* excellent creativity and resourcefulness
* excellent written and verbal communications
* excellent teamwork in small workgroups
* good general software/network systems IT configuration/integration
* a passion for excellence
* ability to work with QA staff and architect developers
* ability to work with third-party brand partners to manage new digital media acquisition & delivery
* (strong plus, but not required: Skills in graphic artwork, SQL, scripting Perl/PHP)
* (good plus, but not required: Written fluency in Spanish, Chinese and/or Portuguese)

We supply all cell phone models for each brand, and use Digital Orchid's content-driven, services-oriented architecture platform technology to seamlessly integrate digital media sources, operations controls and multiple wireless technologies including BREW, Java MIDP (J2ME), Window Mobile, SMS/MMS, and others. We use standard web, database and server infrastructure technologies in our high-density hosted data center system. Our product development processes follow industry-standard software best practices.

The position spans creative, technical, multi-media, test, operations and marketing by creating a branded wireless media experience and cultivating a wireless brand following; the position reports to a Senior Creative Director. According to demonstrated talent the position may grow, transfer, evolve or be promoted into additional responsiblities or related or leadership responsibilities in product software engineering or creative media. It's up to the employee to determine how far they can go.

Because of our award-winning products and company position in this new market, Digital Orchid received a strategic investment from Qualcomm in 2004, the first they have ever given to a startup company only a few years old (Digital Orchid is a privately-held company founded in 2002).
This investment received front-page reporting in wireless journals such as the industry-leading RCR Wireless News.
