Yahoo! is seeking a Senior Interaction Designer to join the User Experience & Design team for Yahoo! Personals, Yahoo!’s online dating business. Yahoo! Personals is the world’s second largest online dating service and holds a significant place in Yahoo!’s portfolio of products and services. The User Experience & Design team’s mission is to define and design the user experience for Yahoo!
Personals, recently ranked as the #1 user experience in the online dating industry.
You will be responsible for providing strategic interaction design leadership that not only maintains Personals’ dominant industry position, but propels the user experience team into strategic partnership with product management, marketing and engineering teams to inform product strategy and deliver best of class user experience designs. You will play a leadership role within the talented Personals user experience and design team that consists of passionate design researchers, interaction designers, and visual designers who work in a highly collaborative environment with one another, and their cross-functional counterparts. You will also be expected to provide functional expertise across Yahoo! by mentoring other designers and introducing new and innovative design solutions that balance business and user needs with superb functional design sensibilities.

Primary responsibilities include:
- Define collaborative, adaptive, and creative user experience design strategies within a sequenced product development process
- Develop design concepts and suggest product direction based on field research and functional requirements
- Effectively communicate high-level design concepts and detailed functional requirements through a combination of storyboards, user interaction models, workflows, information architecture, schematics, prototypes, and interface guidelines
- Collaborate with design researchers to translate findings from ethnographic, prototype, and usability studies into new design concepts with significant business impacts
- Collaborate with visual designers to communicate visionary concepts, refine the interactive experience, and support primary functional design goals
- Work closely with engineers to communicate design specifications and provide oversight during implementation and pre-release activities
- Effectively and efficiently communicate and provide required design deliverables across a multidisciplinary team throughout all phases of the project
- Lead and mentor other designers to grow their core functional skills and contribute to their professional development
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s (preferred) degree in Graphic Design, Industrial Design, HCI, Cognitive Psychology, Computer Science, Fine Arts, or related area
- 5+ years experience as a key member of a design team participating in the complete product development lifecycle of several successfully launched web and/or software applications
- At least 2+ years experience leading large design efforts and coordinating project teams of 4 or more members
- Must be process driven, demonstrate strong interaction design skills and have a solid understanding of user centered design principles and design patterns
- Able to develop new approaches to complex design problems and can convey ideas into tangible form
- Must communicate clearly and effectively to varying audiences; have strong analytical skills; have excellent interpersonal skills; able to collaborate actively with others in a cross-functional team with the ability to build consensus
- Organized and able to act independently
- Works well under pressure and able to meet aggressive deadlines
- Must have solid understanding of web application and website design with working knowledge of HTML
- Must be equipped with a strong sense of humor and respect for different opinions and perspectives
- Thrives working in a rapid, agile, and occasionally ambiguous development environment
- Believes the status quo was made to be broken
- Experience with consumer facing services preferred
- Rapid prototype development skills a plus
