Several Design and Usability Job Openings at Microsoft Corporation
The Windows Server System (WSS) Design/Usability group at Microsoft has several job openings for the following positions at its Redmond (Seattle) headquarters in Washington, USA:
User Experience Manager (2 openings)
Usability Engineer (3 openings)
Product (UI) Designer (2 openings)
The WSS Design/Usability group is responsible for driving the user experience for SQL, Exchange, and E-business (BizTalk, Commerce Server, and Host Integration server) server products, which are some of Microsoft’s flagship server products and account for a sizable chunk of Microsoft’s revenue. It is especially important to design and build products that meet the needs of different users, are easy to learn, use, and troubleshoot, and keep the businesses running efficiently.
You will be a user experience thought-leader, driving the long term business vision and goals in this area, and translating them into reality. You should be highly motivated, have a strong passion for technology, and work well individually, or in a team environment. Strong written and verbal communication-skills are a must, as well as, working in a fast-paced environment, where changing gears quickly are a must. You will work with your team on the scoping, planning and the execution of design/usability activities while demonstrating the ability to drive process improvements, encourage innovation, and execute and deliver to firm deadlines.
Qualifications include a degree in Human Factors, Design (interaction design, industrial design, visual communications, or related field), Psychology, HCI, behavioral sciences, or something similar, with at least 4 years experience in the software industry (experience with server products or similar technologies is desirable). For the manager positions, you should have an additional 3+ years of managerial experience. A combination of design and usability/user research skills is critical for working in this multi-functional team, as well as a good understanding of their application within the product development cycle.
