RESPONSIBILITIES
You will manage the User Experience & Design research team for Yahoo’s Consumer Services business unit (including Y! Mobile, Y! Living Room, and Y! Access services). In this position you will lead the design research team to spearhead a user centered design process and develop usable, useful and compelling web experiences. You are expected to foster and support a collaborative, innovative culture working closely with an interdisciplinary team of smart and fun interaction designers, visual designers, and prototypers that matrix into a functional organization of product managers, engineers, and marketing professionals.

* Responsible for the design research across the business unit. Coordinate with product managers and design managers in determining best research strategy for given projects.
* Mentor and grow a team of senior design researchers.
* Enable both tactical focus on project execution and strategic thinking and envisioning among your team members.
* Collaborate with other research organizations within Yahoo! (market researchers and data mining analysts) in order to create comprehensive coordinated research.
* Understand the business needs, while researching the needs of the user, in order to create solutions and opportunities for the business unit.
* Synthesize research findings from other data sources (including market research and data mining) into meaningful recommendations and actionable items.
* See the big picture across individual research insights and communicate it effectively to executives.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
* Master's degree or Ph.D. in Human Factors, Human-Computer Interaction, Cognitive or Experimental Psychology, Cognitive Science, or related area (or equivalent experience).
* At least 5 years experience in user experience research or related area, conducting ethnographic research, participatory design, heuristic evaluations, usability testing, benchmark testing, competitive evaluations, and questionnaire/survey design within a product development organization or large website.
* A minimum of 2 years management experience
