Yahoo! Small Business, the leading provider of Small Business domain, hosting and e-commerce online services, is seeking a Director of User Experience Design (UED). You will be responsible for managing an interdisciplinary team of 6 User Experience and Design specialists. You will lead the design team and partner with the product group to develop and deliver the user experience design for Yahoo?s Small Business http://smallbusiness.yahoo.com/
Primary Responsibilities
- Provide creative direction and leadership to deliver on the overarching Small Business product objectives resulting in high quality user experiences informed by user centered design principles.
- Bring great people management skills and mentorship to a team of interaction design, visual design and design research specialists. Deliver performance reviews; establish clear goals and objective; determine compensation and career growth
- Understand the needs of internal and external customers, the business, and the competitive landscape. Translate this understanding into a user experience design strategy which meets the needs of users, the business and fulfills the Yahoo Brand promise.
- Coordinate the activities of the team with other key departments, ensuring accurate and highly professional communications, coordination, and collaboration at all times.
- Oversee projects running concurrently on multiple tracks from planning through launch in a very multitasking interdisciplinary culture.
- Effectively manage shared resource schedules for optimum productivity and efficiency
- Ensure successful knowledge sharing among Small Business and the UED organization consisting of over 100 staff supporting product design on the Yahoo.com website.
Education and Experience
- Proactive customer oriented individual with strong desire to innovate and develop great product designs.
- Extensive experience defining and developing fee based web applications at all stages of the product lifecycle.
- Excellent grasp of the competitive and economic dimensions of the Small Business hosting and e-commerce space desirable.
- Must communicate clearly and effectively; strong analytical and oral communication skills; excellent interpersonal and leadership skills; able to collaborate actively with others in a cross-functional team.
- Strong matrix management skills
- Demonstrate strong design process and skills
- Highly organized and able to switch rapidly between different projects in a fast-paced and exciting environment.
- At least 5 years experience leading a large web site design effort with other designers and/or managing a design team
- At least 10-15 years' experience in product design, visual design, interaction design, Human Factors, HCI, industrial design, or related area
- MBA desirable
