Seeking a Great, Experienced Product Designer

The world is changing. It is increasingly a mobile world. More mobile PCs will be sold this year than workstations and the variety of new mobile devices is exploding. These trends will change Microsoft and change the industry. Would you like to influence this evolution? Would you like to help invent new ways of interacting with computers and take Windows to the next level? Would you like to imagine and realize designs for new kinds of mobile entertainment products, tools for education and healthcare, and products for home and work? Would you like to work with a product team who already believes deeply in the importance of the great user experience you'll be helping to create?

The Microsoft Mobile and Tablet PC design team is looking for experienced designers with the ability to influence product direction through compelling design vision. We need people who relish solving tough design challenges, and who are passionate about creating innovative product experiences through hardware and software integration for diverse user groups like consumers, students, and people at work. We need people who understand brand and can design user experiences that redefine the power of Windows. Our team offers the place to stretch skills in new directions and an opportunity to leverage design to fundamentally change people's lives around the world with the support of a great team.

In the UX organization you'll be inventing new user experiences, helping define the design vision for the product, and working with the product team to make the vision real. You'll design and drive the development of the platform and shell interactions for pen, mobile, control and annotation fundamentals around a well-defined nucleus of user needs, tasks, and business goals. Over time, you'll be working with a variety of emerging technologies such as touch, speech, location awareness, and biometrics. We're looking for a talented and experienced product designer with strong interaction and graphic design skills to help us create awesome Mobile and Tablet PC design experiences for platform and shell integration. This includes working as a core member of the User Experience team to understand, define, and when appropriate, redefine the problems that user interaction and user interface are intended to solve. It will be important for the successful candidate to be passionate about innovating on existing Windows conventions by creating interaction standards and influencing the design of partner teams like MSX, Office and others. Qualifications include a minimum of 5 years work experience with Windows related SW products and consumer electronics, and demonstrated success in designing compelling successful products. Product ship and some design project management experience required, as is the ability to define and communicate brand through design.

Extensive experience with user interface prototyping in HTML, Flash, Director, PhotoShop, or similar tools is required. Demonstrated ability to work confidently with diverse teams (e.g., Program Management, SW Development, Product Planning, Industrial Design, User Assistance and Usability) required. Must be able to define and drive interaction experience design that is compelling, efficient, effective, satisfying, and innovative. Strong HCI knowledge, skills, and experienced needed. Experience in either the enterprise or consumer space is required, and experience in both would be ideal. At least a BA/BS degree in Industrial Design, Interface Design, Interaction Design or equivalent is required.
