Director, User Experience
Summary: The Director, User Experience is a newly created leadership position reporting to the VP, Product Management. Working side by side with peers in Product Management & Marketing this position will be responsible for integrating UCD into the existing product development process and taking the overall product experience to the next level. Successful candidatemust be a hands-on leader, skilled in complete UCD process, and experienced in application/product design. Educational industry experience a big plus!

Description: The Director, User Experience must be an experienced professional with strong interpersonal and project-leadership skills, as well as sharp problem-solving and thought -leadership abilities. The candidate will be responsible for managing the User Experience team, developing and documenting product structure, and defining/describing information relationships and navigation models. This will include developing approaches to content categorization and hierarchy.
Responsibilities:
* Employ user-centered design processes to ensure that information is useful, usable.
* Develop hierarchical classification systems and related documentation (e.g., site maps, schematics, content outlines, navigation labeling, functional specifications); diagram relationships between site content or features.
* Develop all levels of prototypes through final specifications, documenting: UI behaviors and models, workflow, interaction requirements, etc.
* Develop controlled vocabularies and document relationships between terms.
* Drive discussions and methodologies for determining/testing site architecture and taxonomy.
* Work in multidisciplinary teams to translate test findings and input into business objectives.
* Manage a three-person User Experience team.
Requirements:
* Three to six years of professional experience in one or more of the following: Product/software design (preferred), iTV, online banking, ecommerce or similar.
* Advanced degree in human-centered design, information science, interaction design or similar.
* Experience with major/complex system build or redesign from inception through completion.
* Strong ability to tactically address and advocate the customer experience.
* Ability to negotiate, communicate and recommend strategies within a project team.
* Knowledge of HTML, Visio.
* Experience in the educational industry a big plus.
