Interaction/UI designer, Ipswich

My client is based in Ipswich, UK and they are a leading product and software service organisation. We are currently looking for an interaction/UI designer to join the team.

Responsibilities:

Working with the User Experience Specialist based in the UK and UI software developers, the UI Designer will take User Experience and Business Strategies to create detailed UI prototypes, designs and UI specifications that conform to industry best-practise standards as well as corporate product standards. You will confidently communicate these deliverables to software developers, technical authors and system testers.

You will also be capable of assisting the Development team with UI programming as and when needed.

The role:

* You work closely with the user experience specialist, system
analysts and designers to understand requirements.
* You create prototypes, UI designs and specifications to best
support those requirements.
* You communicate your designs to UI software developers who
will implement the features.
* You work with software developers, providing guidance to
ensure the UI design solutions meet quality standards.
* You will support development, documentation and test teams
during implementation, providing functional clarifications, and defect/enhancement resolutions as needed.
* You will design and create appropriate graphic icons and
images as required to product standards.
* You will write UI style guides for product functionality.
* As and when necessary, you will provide additional UI
Programming capabilities to the Development team to implement your UI designs.

Target profile:

This position requires an experienced user interaction designer with proven success of designing and specifying high quality user interfaces for non-web application products for Microsoft platforms. Additionally, UI Programming experience would be a distinct advantage.

Qualifications:

* You have an Honours Degree or Master's degree with strong
focus on UI interaction design or human computer interaction.
* You can show at least 5 years recent experience of non-web UI
design in a commercial software environment.
* You can show experience of recent UI development skills,
preferably using .NET.

Essential:

* You have a real passion for designing quality products focused
on improving users’ efficiency on achieving their business goals.
* Being an expert in UI Design, you consistently deliver
innovative and creative designs that delight users and customers.
* You are obsessive about the details and correctness of the UI
design.
* You are aware of the implications and constraints of a wide
range of different technologies (especially Java and .NET) while retaining the ability to challenge and overcome those constraints where necessary to deliver a high-quality user experience.
* Confident and comfortable in providing UI direction to
software developers, you exhibit excellent interpersonal skills to communicate your ideas and designs clearly, persuasively and firmly.
* You can demonstrate that you are fully conversant and
extremely knowledgeable of Microsoft’s UI standards and guidelines as well as Microsoft’s Office tools.
* You keep yourself up to date with current and future thinking
on UI design issues.
* You have superb English oral and written communication skills.
* You are proactive, productive and able to self-start and
manage your own work with limited supervision – while instinctively knowing when to ask for critique or help.
* You can demonstrate good creative examples of your work,
including prototypes, designs and UI Specifications for non-web products.

Preferred

* You have written corporate UI style guides and UI
specifications for non-web application products.
* You have experience of designing products for global markets
and are aware of il8n and l10n issues.
* You have experience of designing Accessible products.
* You have experience of software analysis, design and
development.
* You have an interest in digital imagery.
* You have UI programming skills and experience on Microsoft
platforms.

We are looking for someone who can start ASAP.

The role is Ipswich based but there may be an element of international travel in the future, the right candidate can expect a salary between £30 – 40,000 depending on experience.
