Design Ethnographer, Ignition, Inc.

Ignition Inc. is a cutting edge industrial design firm based in Dallas, TX. The firm has a long history of developing breakthrough products for companies in the hi-tech and consumer electronic sectors. We are currently developing a multi-disciplinary Research and Innovation group that will advise clients internationally on issues of design planning, brand management and innovation strategy.
Our Research and Innovation group currently seeks to hire a User Researcher Specialist to strengthen our field research efforts. The User Research Specialist will work with project teams to design, conduct and analyze user research, and to apply the result of ethnographic research to the development of design concepts, user scenarios and broad opportunity areas.
Responsibilities include:
- Contribute to the development of innovative research design aimed at deepening customer insight and defining innovation areas.
- Recruit research participants and schedule research activities.
- Conduct field research using ethnographic methods, including interviews, observations, and video ethnography.
- Analyze data using standard qualitative methods, including drafting fieldnotes, coding data, and developing thematic narratives.
- Develop models and frameworks that communicate patterns, processes, regularities and meanings observed in user research.
- Work with project teams to develop design concepts and user scenarios.
- Report research results through project briefs, story boards, and PowerPoint presentations.
- Participate in the development of new research tools and methods.
- Help to develop a general understanding of user research among product designers, engineers, and other non-research staff.
Qualifications:
- Master's or higher degree in a related field (e.g. anthropology, sociology, social psychology)
- 4+ years experience conducting field research
- Demonstrated expertise in ethnographic research; product conceptualization experience desirable.
- Experience with qualitative research software a plus.
- Ability to translate raw findings into strategic and/or product insights.
- Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to work with interdisciplinary team members.
