Senior Information Architect (Contract)
Needham, Massachusetts
TripAdvisor, Inc. is searching for a contract information architect. We are looking to fill the role immediately and would prefer to work with someone in the Boston area. However, we will consider extremely strong telecommuting candidates who would be available to join us in our office for at least one week at project kickoff and for periodic meetings thereafter.
Overview
The ideal candidate has a minimum of 3+ years experience working as an information architect (or serving that role) for consumer-facing web sites. The ideal candidate also has experience working on internally focused web applications and productivity tools. Demonstrated business knowledge is required, including the ability to communicate with the business teams in their own terms. Listening, collaboration and problem-solving skills are crucial to this role, since the primary function of the Information Architect is to work closely with a small project team drawn from several departments. This role requires minimal to no direct supervision.
Primary Duties
* Ability to serve as a lead for UE in a large-scale project.
* Ability to prioritize and multi-task by managing work load across maintenance/enhancement requests and projects.
* Ability to estimate work/level of effort for IA components of tickets and projects. Familiarity with work/level of efforts required by other UE disciplines.
* Participate in the high-level planning for site initiatives including developing user personae, planning scenarios and use-case surveys.
* Participate in creating functional specification documents, collaborating as needed.
* Lead in creating User Interface Specifications, potentially including user profiles, use cases, user-flow diagrams, site maps, and wire frames, as needed.
* Design structure of navigation and content elements specifically related to ticket request needs, in order to create the highest-quality user experience possible.
* Manage project documentation, numbering systems, and content tracking on larger projects (when applicable).
* Create micro-content to continuously improve contextual assistance, error messaging and consistent application of conventional naming.
* Participate in prototype usability testing to validate the user experience of the design concept and/or the resultant product.
* Contribute actively to planning process refinement and method.
* Manage vendors/contractors for design services, as needed.
* Project Management Ability to manage UE portions of a project plan.
Technical / Functional Knowledge
* Formal training in the fields of User Experience and basics of Information Design desired.
* Usability experience and formal training, either in structuring and conducting research or in interpreting resulting is desired.
Education
* Undergraduate degree required. Formal advanced graduate-level or field-related training/education preferred.
Experience
* Internal or external client service experience in software design, instructional technologies, interaction design or web development is required.
* Consumer-facing work experience is required.
* A minimum of 2 years of experience working as an information architect is required.
