Title of Position: Senior Interaction Designer

Job Description
Responsibilities:
The UI designer will spearhead user interface design from conceptualization and design through to development and release of VMware products. You will work with a world-class team of engineers and marketers starting at the earliest stages. The right candidate will have the opportunity to build completely new product lines from the ground up.
The UI designer at VMware is a thought leader in a cross-functional team, collaborating with developers, product managers, and other designers to identify requirements and concepts and drive them to concrete designs and specifications. You will also serve as an evangelist for the best practices and ideas in user interface design. Individual responsibilities will include developing user models, designing and prototyping UI, developing UI specification guidelines and specifications. You'll collaborate with graphic designers, software developers, and QA engineers to resolve tradeoffs and achieve the best possible implementation. You'll also work with product management to perform user testing and contextual inquiry to support usability efforts throughout the product life cycle.
Requirements:
* Experience taking the lead in the user interface design process for
successful commercial desktop products.
* Strong conceptual skills and demonstrated ability to prototype and design elegant UI solutions to user problems. Thoroughly versed in the state of the art methodologies in interaction design.
* Proven track record of applying user-centered design methods to product development. Demonstrate extensive domain knowledge for past projects. Domain knowledge in the areas of enterprise desktop users or technical users (such as developers, sysadmins, or QA engineers) a plus.
* Strong leadership and communication skills working in a multi-disciplinary, collaborative environment.
* Technically skilled. (User interface programming in VB, C++, C#, or Java.
Graphics design using Photoshop, Illustrator, or comparable).
* Excellent analytical skills, writing skills, and attention to detail.
* BSCS or equivalent. MS or PhD in CS or HCI desirable.
