If you are excited by the prospect of shaping innovative new products for the PC consumer, this job is for you! Microsoft’s User Experience team in the Home and Retail Division has an opportunity for an experienced usability engineer with a passion for the needs of end users. You will to a key contributor to a multi-disciplinary user experience team (i.e., user research, design, and user assistance), working closely with the product team that will create these innovative products.

The usability engineer must have solid knowledge of diverse research methods (e.g., observational and field methods), experimental design and data analysis. Candidate must be able to quickly and effectively analyze and present empirical/qualitative data to shape product design, direction, and implementation. Candidate must have excellent communication skills and present information effectively and persuasively. Team members and management will see candidate as an effective domain expert and user experience advocate.

An advanced degree in human computer interaction, psychology, or a related field is required along with a minimum of 3 - 5 years experience in industry conducting user research using various methods and working successfully with product teams to drive application of results into products. Experience generating research plans, defining and tracking user experience metrics and coordinating work on multiple projects is needed. Research experience with both hardware and software is a plus. Excellent communication and organizational skills are needed.
