User Experience Analyst, Open Text

Purpose of Position

The User Experience Analyst provides creative and technical project teams, internal stakeholders, and customers with research and insight that aids in the creation of positive user experiences. He or she acts as an advocate for the user, modeling their behavior and identifying processes and features that help users accomplish their goals quickly and easily. The analyst will be responsible for gathering user inputs and feedback, developing an understanding of user needs, and creating the appropriate tools to translate that understanding into actionable information for the development team.

The person filling this position will have a significant impact on the day- to-day knowledge management experience for millions of people.


Primary Duties

• Work with customers to promote participation in research and feedback initiatives, and translate that interest into action

• Identify user needs through techniques such as field observation, formal and informal usability testing, surveys, task analysis, and log analysis for identification of usage patterns

• Communicate findings via tools such as user models, personas, use cases and scenarios

• Identify internal and external stakeholders, and coordinate information- gathering and sharing sessions at several points in the overall development process

• Document actionable recommendations for improving the user experience and increasing product adoption

• Working with the design team, manage the translation of usability requirements into user process flows, interaction designs, and graphic designs

• Complete heuristic reviews of designs presented by other teams working on a variety of products, based on expertise and data previously attained

• Assist in the development of the User Experience practice by working to integrate and improve user-centered design methodologies in the overall development process


Skills and Knowledge

• Significant expertise in user modeling, usability engineering, and user- centered design techniques and tools

• Strong meeting facilitation & presentation skills

• Experience working directly with technical teams to bridge the gap between user needs and attitudes, and development needs and attitudes

• Excellent organizational, interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to discuss both high-level strategic issues and specific interaction details, with the ability balance the two in a manner appropriate for the objectives at hand

• Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Visio

• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

• Skills in coaching others in user-centered design techniques

• At least 5 years experience as a human factors engineer, usability engineer, information architect, or interaction designer, designing a variety of technology solutions


Nice to have:

• Experience with content management and collaboration software

• Quantitative data gathering and analysis skills

• Understanding of change management issues

• Understanding of best practices for deploying enterprise systems to a large population of users from multiple business units and industries


Academic

BS / BA in Human-Computer Interaction, Anthropology, Communication Design, or related field
