The Microsoft Hardware User Experience team is looking for a strong user research leader and manager to drive all user research activities in our mouse, keyboard, and emerging product businesses. You will be working with an interdisciplinary user experience team and leading a team of 6 user researchers to create exceptional user experiences for our highly successful products.
You値l direct hardware user researchers to deliver user research, ergonomics and usability information for all product teams in Microsoft Hardware Division -- so you値l need to have excellent leadership skills and command of a wide range of user research methods for identifying user needs. You値l need to understand new areas of user needs and behavior, looking for new opportunities for products and services -- so you will need to think strategically, be creative and be able to communicate a lot of information simply and in an organized way to senior business leaders. You値l manage a team of exceptional talent, developing staff performance objectives, monitoring individual career paths; and identifying and managing consultant resources to augment employee contributions - so you will need to be an accomplished people manager. You will represent Microsoft user research and ergonomics for customers and press so you値l need to be a great communicator. Most importantly, you値l need to be passionate about our customers - consumers who want great user experiences.
Additional qualifications:
At least 6-8 years of experience in the industry conducting user research using broad methods and working successfully with product teams to drive application of results into high-volume products. At least two years managing teams of researchers in team environments. Experience planning research, defining and tracking user experience metrics, and coordinating the work of several resources on multiple products/releases.
Comprehensive knowledge of the field of human-computer interaction, experimental design, observational and field methods and data analysis is required. Strong aptitude for learning new technologies and new areas of research is a must. Additional, hands-on experience in a secondary field such as ergonomics, interaction design, industrial design, software engineering, etc. is highly desired. Strong written and oral communication skills are required.
Education requirements include either an MA/MS or PhD in human factors, psychology, ergonomics or highly related field. CPE certification is desirable.
